“One company that serves multiple needs.” – Mike Baker

Meet the owners

Mike And Steve Baker

Mike and Steve were born and raised in the fields of Northeast Iowa, where they learned the value of hard work and dedication. Steve began his entrepreneurship in 1990 with the development of Baker Lawn and Care Landscaping. With just ten employees, the company focused on commercial work for several surrounding towns. At the same time, Mike was beginning his construction career for Clark Concrete in Camdenton, Missouri. When he moved back to Northeast Iowa in 1993, he worked several years for Mueller Construction out of Postville. It was the spring of 1997 when these two brothers decided to join forces with the establishment of Baker Enterprises, Inc.. With just two employees, the crew focused on the residential and agricultural market before quickly expanding into the commercial sector. Today, Mike and Steve’s construction operations consist of two companies that employ nearly 60 people. Looking back, the two brothers have almost forgotten what their company used to be like. Mike says he’ll never forget the first garage floor they poured and they both remember with pride how it felt to build their new office in 1998.
In 2009, the brothers purchased Happel Construction in Waverly, Iowa, a company very similar to Baker Enterprises, Inc.. The purchase of this company not only increased the number of services they could offer, but also opened doors to a larger market area.

Now with over 19 years of service behind them, most of Mike and Steve’s work is done behind the scenes and not with a shovel or a dozer. However, they are quick to get their hands dirty on a jobsite when the need arises. What hasn’t changed is the pride they take in the work of their employees whose dedication over the years has been invaluable in building the company.
